Tekboy Tekstil installs SPGPrints’ Javelin digital printer

SPGPrints Javelin Digital PrinterTekboy Tekstil, a leading yarn dyeing plant based in Istanbul, Turkey, has installed SPGPrints’ Javelin digital printer to supplement production capacity and meet increased demand for shorter-runs, rapid turnarounds, and on-demand sample production. Javelin printer is Tekboy’s first high-volume digital machine investment.

The Javelin printer uses Archer technology which enables the firing of variable drops (2pL-10pL) to the substrate. The 4 mm distance from print head to substrate eliminates head damage and is ideal for printing the knitted fabrics produced by the company. The consistent quality of printer’s ink delivery system enables the company to meet the demand for frequently changing designs. Javelin’s six-colour (CMYK, Blue, and Orange) system can reliably and repeatedly reproduce a wider gamut and achieve fine tonal gradations due to the variable dot sizes. Furthermore, with its help, Tekboy can produce samples, usually in 10 metres lengths, economically and instantly, enabling its customers to speed up product development phases.

Süha Artun, Factory Manager, Tekboy said, “The Javelin’s outstanding quality and productivity were important factors in our investment decision. It is the fastest printer we have seen to achieve a resolution of 1200 dpi x 1200 dpi, and we were very impressed with the results when it produced challenging designs such as geometrics and blotches at relatively high speeds. But other important factors put the SPGPrints offering in a league if its own.”

Turkish textile researchers seek investment

Textile Research

During last month’s UTIB International Textile and Apparel Sector International R&D Brokerage Event in Bursa, Turkish researchers unveiled a number of R&D projects to develop innovative textiles and launch their production in partnership with potential investors. The researchers are looking for financial support for their projects. “We have been holding this research and development event since 2009. To date, 100 projects have found investors to support their launch,” informed Ibrahim Burkay, President Uludag Textile Exporters Association (UTIB).

One such project has been undertaken by Prof. Arzu Marmaralı, Prof. Mehmet Kertmen and Prof. Nuriye Kertmen along with their team from the Ege University in Izmir, where they have been developing a textile stretcher, enabled to adopt itself to the shape of the transported persons, and fitted with antibacterial and protective capacities. The fabric is manufactured with the use of Hydroxyl Ammonium and polyester fibre, according to the team. The Turkish researchers are seeking an investment of some € 142,500 to make military uniforms enabled with antimicrobial capacities and fitted with increased protection against adverse weather and environmental conditions.

Besides this, hat fitted with small photo-voltaic (PV) panels powering a camera and related sensors, designed to help those suffering from visual impairment has been developed by Dr. Mehmet Sabri Ersoy, Dr. Ayse Nur Tarakci and their team from Turkey’s Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University. The research project is estimated to be worth about € 21,500) and scheduled to be completed within the next 24 months.

As Turkish textile producers are forced to look for new export destinations due to political tensions between Russia and Turkey, these innovations could prove to be a significant asset in their ongoing efforts to expand to new foreign markets.

A report by research firm EMIS states that exports of Turkish textile and clothing goods have been on the rise in the recent years, however, the sector’s share in the country’s total export sales in on the decline. In the year 2012, Turkey was the ninth biggest textiles supplier in the world with a 3 per cent market share and 7th-largest clothing supplier with a 3.4 per cent share. Turkish textiles exports zoomed 2.6 per cent to US $ 13.3 billion in 2012 while clothing exports increased by 2.8 per cent to nearly US $ 12 billion. This show that the country’s T&C sector has the potential to regain its share in the market. With innovations in place, proper funding would certainly strengthen the sector.
