China-based C&H Garment and the Agency for the Promotion of Investments and Major Works (APIX), Senegal have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU), to set up an apparel manufacturing unit in Senegal. The MoU looks at making an investment worth US $ 25 million for the manufacturing unit envisaged in Diamniadio industrial park, about 30 km from capital Dakar. Media reports suggests that the development is initially expected to bring about employment for 1,000 people which will go up to 5,000 as the project grows.
Scheduled to be operational by June 2016, the initiative will facilitate apparel manufacturing technology transfer and hence further development of the nation’s apparel manufacturing sector. Earlier this year, C&H initiated the process of establishing an apparel manufacturing facility in Rwanda.
