With the improvement of the Coronavirus situation globally, which led to people returning to work and take part in formal events again, export of woven apparels from Bangladesh started recovering from August — in August, woven exporters fetched US $ 1.15 billion, registering 4.48 per cent year-on-year growth — even as in the second half of 2021, shipment of woven items grew to US $ 8.74 billion, increasing 24.50 per cent compared to the same period a year ago.
Media reports maintained this while adding export rebound of woven apparels helped lift Bangladesh’s merchandise shipment in the just-concluded year even as in December, exports broke records after fetching US $ 1.86 billion, the highest in a single month, up 48.17 per cent year-on-year.
“…prospect for 2022 is bright as buyers are placing orders in higher numbers,” reportedly, maintained Deputy Managing Director of Desh Garments Vidiya Amrit Khan while Managing Director of Classic Fashion Shahidullah Azim — Classic Fashion makes woven shirts and trousers — on his part added global brands and retailers were placing a lot of work orders for woven items.
It may be mentioned here that Desh Garments’s shipments — Desh Garments is Bangladesh’s oldest garment factory, which mainly ships woven shirts — started picking up from June with the reopening of the economies worldwide and, at the end of 2021, the export receipts of the company from the shipment of woven shirts witnessed 60 per cent growth.
