One-day reduction in dwell time or ship’s stay time at the Chittagong Port — Chittagong Port is Bangladesh’s main sea port and is in news at times due to container congestion — would increase export by 7.4 per cent.
This was, reportedly, stated by Tatiana Peralta, a World Bank transport expert recently, even as she added improvement in transport and logistics in Bangladesh would help boost export receipt significantly while underlining reducing domestic logistic costs by 17 per cent would also increase export by 7.4 per cent even as improving minimum speed along the national highways to 40 kilometres per hour would increase exports by 3.7 per cent.
Tatiana, reportedly, maintained this while presenting a keynote at a virtual meeting co-hosted by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and BUILD (a leading local public-private dialogue platform) co-chaired by PMO secretary Md. Tofazzel Hossain Miah and Chairperson of BUILD Abul Kasem Khan, while underlining on how to reduce logistic costs to enhance Bangladesh’s trade competitiveness and export growth.
