The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), which is the apex garment makers’ body in the country, has welcomed the recent reported move of the Walt Disney to reinstate the country as a permitted sourcing nation.
President of the garment makers’ body, Faruque Hassan, reportedly, termed the move by Walt Disney as ‘timely initiative’ and recognition for the ‘all-out progresses and transformation, particularly in the area of environmental sustainability, workplace safety and social standards.’
It may be mentioned here that in the wake of building collapse and fire incident, Walt Disney had suspended sourcing from Bangladesh in 2013 before it decided to resume sourcing after almost a decade now.
According to reports, a press note issued by the BGMEA in this direction has underlined that Walt Disney has considered to include Bangladesh in its Permitted Sourcing Country list with ILS (International Labor Standard) audits.
