Doug McMillon, CEO Walmart met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi and promised US $ 10 billion annual exports by 2027.
Prime Minister said that the meeting with McMillon was fruitful, during which they had insightful discussions on different subjects. He also said he was happy to see “India emerge as an attractive destination for investment.”
McMillon was quoted in a tweet by Walmart Inc., saying that the company is working toward exporting US $ 10 Billion per year from India by 2027 and is committed to strengthening logistics, skill development and supply chains to make India a global export leader in toys, seafood and other goods.
It further read, “The visit with Prime Minister reinforces the shared value we bring working alongside India. Together, we’ll continue to support the country’s manufacturing growth and create opportunity.”
The Walmart CEO also met with suppliers, merchants, grantees, artisans, and MSMEs in India last week. McMillon was joined by Walmart International CEO Judith McKenna, as well as other members of the Walmart leadership team, in Bangalore to meet with suppliers, merchants, grantees, artisans and MSMEs across key Indian programs and initiatives. It was a first-of-a-kind gathering of all the group entities under one roof.
Another seller at the event was The Trident Group, one of India’s largest exporters of home textile products including bedding, towels and carpets.
There was also Vrinda Khurana, a young entrepreneur from Panipat, Haryana, who transformed her old family business into Chandan Textiles, a maker of customized gift products, such as customized mugs, sweatshirts, T-shirts and bottles.
It can be mentioned here that Walmart also has huge apparel sourcing from India and as per industry insiders, the retail giant is increasing the same from India.
