Vietnam exported T&C worth US $ 5056.9 million in January-May ’18 period marking 7.66 per cent growth from the corresponding period in 2017. The data released by the US Office of Textiles and Apparel and analysed by Apparel Resources indicates that Vietnam (same as previous month) is the 3rd largest T&C exporter to the USA after China and India in volume-terms, while the South-East Asian manufacturing hub stands at 2nd rank after China when it comes to value-wise exports of T&C.
Of all textile and clothing products, Readymade garments (RMG) exports clocked US $ 4754.53 million figure, marking 6.11 per cent growth on the yearly note. Cotton and Man Made Fibre (MMF) apparels paced up the growth of exports as cotton apparels shipment was worth US $ 2001.65 million (up 4.81%), while MMF apparels tapped US $ 2630.96 million (up 7.77%) in its respective exports during the period under review.
On the other hand, exports of wool apparels and silk & veg apparels continued downfalling on the yearly note. Wool apparels accounted for US $ 34.82 million (down 10.92%), whereas exports of silk & veg apparels valued at just US $ 87.10 million posting a drop of 3.57 per cent Y-o-Y.
Markedly, non-apparel products from Vietnam to USA got a boost by 39.76 per cent to reach US $ 302.37 million figure. Further, Made-ups topped the export growth in non-apparel products as it saw a stellar surge of 56.54 per cent to fetch US $ 216.32 million in the mentioned period as against US $ 138.19 million in the same period last year.
Other textile products such as and fabrics too grew in their respective exports though value is not as big as other products. Yarns exports from Vietnam to its largest market USA jumped a decent 5.20 per cent to earn US $ 5.66 million, while the value of fabric exports got a boost by 10.46 per cent and reached US $ 80.39 million in the first 5 months of 2018.
