
USA apparel imports have reached US $ 87.05 billion in January to October period of 2022, noting 30.16 per cent yearly increase. The data has recently been released by OTEXA which was further analysed by Apparel Resources.
The imports so far in 2022 have been the best of all time surpassing previous best figures – US $ 72.52 billion – that was witnessed during the same period in 2019.
Apparel Resources predicts that the USA may import garments worth US $ 100 billion by the end of 2022, for the first time ever!
With a substantial rise in the import values, all Asian apparel exporting countries experienced increase in their shipment to USA during the said period.
Of top five destinations, Bangladesh benefited the most in terms of percentage-wise share (in values) as it grew to 9.71 per cent in Jan.-Oct. ’22 from 8.51 per cent in the same period a year earlier.
Bangladesh shipped US $ 8.46 billion worth of apparel in the US market in the mentioned period, noting 48.56 per cent Y-o-Y surge.
China secured its top rank with US $ 19.33 billion worth of garments entering in the USA from the Asian giant at a growth rate of 20.76 per cent. However, the value-wise share has come down to 22.19 per cent from 23.92 per cent a year earlier
Vietnam’s share too dipped to 18.42 per cent in Jan.-Oct. ’22 from 18.42 per cent in the same period of the prior year. The country still remained at the second position with US $ 16.04 billion apparel export values in the US market.
India and Indonesia are yet again in close contest as India exported US $ 5 billion (up 45 per cent) worth of garments to the USA, while shipment from Indonesia to the USA valued US $ 4.95 billion (up 47.57 per cent).
