As USA has been seeing gradual growth in its apparel retail market after coronavirus catastrophe, the reflection can be seen in its import as well which has started rising from June ’20 on monthly basis.
Brassieres is one of the positive product categories for USA which grew 13.86 per cent in June ’20 over May ’20 and valued US $ 124.30 million. China, Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka were the biggest beneficiaries in June, while other major shippers such as Vietnam, Thailand and Cambodia couldn’t tap growth.
However, the largest importer in the world fell on yearly basis by 36.19 per cent in June ’20 over June ‘19 in its brassieres imports which is no surprise.
Showing signs of good recovery, China tapped 19.47 per cent growth in its brassieres exports to USA in June ’20 on monthly note and clocked US $ 50.10 million.
Vietnam was the second top shipper of brassieres to USA but it fell by 30.21 per cent in June ’20 over May ’20 and clocked US $ 24.40 million. On the other hand, the country still remained positive in H1 ’20 and noted growth of 16.07 per cent on yearly basis over H1 ’19.
Sri Lanka saw a massive surge of 346.38 per cent and shipped US $ 13.26 million worth of brassieres to USA in June ’20 as compared to just US $ 2.97 million in May’20.
India and Bangladesh too grew significantly on M-o-M basis by 234.48 per cent and 87.28 per cent, respectively. India’s brassieres exports to USA valued US $ 4.85 million in June ’20 as compared to US $ 1.45 million in May ’20.
As far as Bangladesh is concerned, the country hit US $ 4.34 million in its brassieres exports to USA in June ’20 as compared to US $ 2.32 million in May ’20.
Though the June data looks promising, it will be only the next quarter (July-September ’20), which will define a trend in apparel trade post-COVID.
