
Contributing almost 40 per cent of global gross domestic product, the 12 nations included in the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) – United States, Brunei, Chile, Australia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Vietnam, Peru, Singapore, Mexico, Japan, and Canada, successfully concluded the TPP. National Council of Textile Organizations attributed the Obama administration for their cooperation on issues related to the textile industry and for the successful conclusion of the TPP. With total apparel and textile imports from the current TPP countries totaled at US $ 19 billion, the TPP needs to establish a yarn forward system as the basis for rule of origin determinations and the setting of multi-year tariff phase-outs on sensitive textile and apparel products.
