Close on heels of a meeting between Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan and leaders of Bangladesh Truck, Covered Van, Tank Lorry, Prime Mover Owners and Workers Coordination Council on 8 November (Monday), truckers and covered van owners, who went on a strike recently over the issue of hike in diesel prices — on 4 November, the Government raised diesel prices by Taka 15, or 23 per cent, to Taka 80 per litre citing a hike in the global market — have postponed their strike even as the minister termed their demand for higher freight charges ‘logical’.
Media reports maintained this adding Asaduzzaman Khan also, reportedly, urged business entities like the BKMEA, BGMEA, FBCCI and others to increase freight charges even as President of the Bangladesh Covered-Van Truck Prime Mover Goods Transport Owners Association, Mokbul Ahmed, reportedly, confirmed the development to the media when he maintained, “…we have postponed the strike for the time being.”
Mokbul further, reportedly, added that in next few days, transporters will meet and discuss with BGMEA and BKMEA on the issue of fixing the fare.
