Cross border trading between India and Bangladesh through Benapole land port resumed on 7 March (Monday) after almost two days of suspension following a strike.
Media reports maintained this adding after a fruitful meeting with the customs authorities, several port users’ organisations that called for an indefinite strike, called off the same thereby allowing resumption of import-export activities.
As per reports, on 2 March, customs officials, reportedly, seized contrabands and other items including explosives, cigarette, current nets, etc., worth Taka 50 lakh from two Indian trucks, following which the customs suspended the licenses of two organisations including Shimul Trading Agency and IDS Group even if a complaint was lodged with Benapole port in this regard.
Following the action by customs department, five port users’ organisations went on an indefinite strike from 5 March (Saturday).
