USA has registered a steep surge in its T-shirt import in June ’20 on monthly basis, owing to gradual rebound of the apparel market.
The country imported US $ 902 million worth of T-shirts in June ’20, which is 47 per cent increase from the previous month – May ’20.
However, there is no sign of import getting back to the levels of the same month of 2019 when USA imported almost double T-shirts (US $ 1.84 billion) than what it has imported in June this year.
Also, cumulatively, USA fell 32.38 per cent on Y-o-Y basis in January-June ’20 period to import US $ 7.09 billion worth of T-shirts as against US $ 10.49 billion in the first half of 2019.
According to an analysis done by Apparel Resources, all major shippers to USA have registered growth in T-shirt export on monthly basis in June ’20 over May ’20, but fell from June ’19.
Vietnam shipped US $ 195.12 million worth of T-shirts to USA in June ’20, noting 26.05 per cent increase from May ’20. The year-over-year fall in Vietnamese T-shirt shipment from June ’19 was 36 per cent.
China too noted significant boost in its T-shirt exports to USA in June ’20 on monthly basis. The shipment from Chinese T-shirts was up by 66.13 per cent in June ’20 over May ’20 to clock US $ 157.74 million. However, it declined 59 per cent from what it valued in June ’19.
Bangladesh also upped by 20.95 per cent in its T-shirt exports to USA in June ’20 over May ’20 and hit US $ 28 million revenue. The Y-o-Y situation wasn’t different from other countries and Bangladesh declined 59.6 per cent in its exports as compared to June ’19.
The rebounding US market has somehow brought cheers to T-shirt exporters of India, who collectively saw an upsurge of 54.66 per cent in June ’20 over May ’20. India clocked US $ 22.27 million revenue from T-shirt shipment to USA in June this year. Following the trend, the country fell sharply on Y-o-Y basis by 72.60 per cent from June ’19.
