Logging around 27 per cent export growth in the past six years, sweater is emerging as the next big bet for Bangladesh as China pulls out from sweater manufacturing.
Reports maintained this even as exporters have stated growth in this area is relatively higher compared to other items.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, BGMEA Vice-President Shahidullah Azim, reportedly, stated in 2021 several sweater-making units expanded production capacity even as Managing Director of Global Knitwear, Mohiuddin Alamgir Romel, on his part, reportedly, said China was leaving the global sweater market owing to rise in production costs while adding Bangladeshi entrepreneurs were set to gain hugely from the same in the upcoming years.
It may be mentioned here that the current size of the global sweater market is around US $ 104 billion with China being the major supplier, while countries like Turkey, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Vietnam and Myanmar are considered other key players in sweater market.
