The apex garment makers’ body BGMEA and the transporters have called for strengthening the vigilance on the all-important Dhaka-Chittagong Highway by the law enforcing agencies, to prevent incidents of RMG export goods being stolen.
As per reports, BGMEA leaders, including its President Faruque Hassan and Vice-President Md. Shahidullah Azim, recently held a meeting with the Executive President of Bangladesh Truck Covered Van Owners Association and its General Secretary, during which Faruque Hassan, reportedly, informed the meeting that export and imported goods are often being stolen on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway resulting in not only financial loss of the respective factories but also damaging the image of the country even as the traders’ body requested the Bangladesh Truck-Covered Van Owners’ Association to ensure GPS tracker installation in all goods-laden cargo vans as a measure to stop stealing during transportation.
The meeting called for strengthening vigilance by law enforcement agencies including Rapid Action Battalion, Highway Police and District Police on the concerned highway as well as the Mirpur-Dhowr Road to prevent thefts.
