
Even if industries in Bangladesh are said to have accepted, in principle, the staggered weekends as proposed by the Government — Government is planning to introduce industrial zone-wise weekly closure in a bid to cope with the energy crisis — businesses in the country are, reportedly, apprehending adverse implications on production.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, BGMEA Acting President Shahidullah Azim, reportedly, underlined the industry is already reeling under two-pronged pressures. While on one hand, it is challenged by gas and power crises, on the other hand its is pressured by declining consumer demand for apparels at major export destinations due to inflationary pressures.
And now with the current hike in fuel price, the generating electricity through own generators has also become expensive, reportedly, underlined Shahidullah Azim even as he, reportedly, requested the captive power plants be kept out of the scope of fuel price hike to give some relief to the garment makers from additional pressure in the current context.
