The Kanpur-Lucknow belt is very well known for ‘techniques’ that have added value to garments being exported from India for many years. Among these chicken embroidery is a frontrunner with many exporters in the area dependent on this traditional embroidery form for international business. Inspired by the increased interest in the technique, a young couple in Kanpur, who was previously organizing chicken work for exporters have set-up a small unit targeting international market. “We set-up the unit with 35 machines to manufacture high-end ladies wear for the International market with focus on chicken work last September,” said Syed Yasser Ibrahim Director Seam Line Enterprise, Kanpur.
Not at all perturbed with the current market conditions, Umama Ibrahim, Director Seam Line Enterprise says, “Though the market for regular basic garments has suffered, we have noticed a steady business with companies that have some uniqueness to offer and we have already started sampling for a buyer and we are very positive that the business will grow fast.”
To ensure product quality the company has invested on best machines not only for stitching, but also in pressing/finishing and button holing. “Not only will these machines ensure quality finish, but they also help to save on labour cost,” concludes Yasser. It is indeed heartening to see young entrepreneurs getting into the industry.
