To achieve sustainability targets in the coming days, the readymade garment industry needs to define well the career progression path for garment workers while also focusing on living wages.
This was underlined in a recent report published by the PricewaterhouseCoopers Bangladesh Private Limited.
Titled ‘What’s next for the readymade garments sector in Bangladesh?’ the PwC report held apparel and textile manufacturing is a labour-intensive industry that calls for a skilled workforce to adopt new technologies, improve process efficiencies, develop new products, and enable innovation with ensuring an economic rate which is crucial for the success of businesses, while adding sustainable product designing, green chemistry, net zero commitments, value-addition and measurement and control were the key challenges for the apparel sector and went on to add ensuring occupational safety and health of the workers, pay parity, water and chemicals emissions, reducing energy and other social agendas ought to get priority at the decision-making processes.
