Citing recent fuel price hike, private Inland Container Depots or ICDs have increased handling charges by 23 per cent even as the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has called for immediate withdrawal of the same terming the move “illogical.”
Media reports maintained this adding, following a virtual meeting recently, owners of 19 private ICDs in Chittagong have, reportedly, issued a circular announcing the new rates of five service charges with retrospective effect from 4 November even as Bangladesh Inland Container Depots Association President Nurul Qayyum Khan, reportedly, informed the media that cost of vehicles and equipment management of the private off-docks have increased following the price hike of diesel and kerosene.
… hence the additional charges have been imposed to cover the additional fuel costs, reportedly, claimed the BICDA President even as the Bangladesh Freight Forwarder Association (BAFA) and the BGMEA have underlined that such a move would increase import-export costs exponentially and called for immediate withdrawal of the same.
