
There is a significant market for pet apparel, whether it’s a tuxedo for a Chihuahua , a sweater for a Dachshund or raincoat for French bulldog. By 2028, the pet apparel industry is estimated to be worth US $ 6.3 billion, growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4 per cent. The global pet products market is expected to reach US $ 38.9 billion by 2025.
According to a recent study by Research and Markets, more and more pet garments are being manufactured for pets such as dogs and cats. Typically, these garments primarily serve a practical purpose, such as keeping pets warm and dry or protecting them from pests. Fabrics used to create such garments include silk, cotton, quilted canvas and wool.
Pet supplies, including leather harnesses, leads and carriers, have long been available from fashion labels, especially high-end labels with thriving accessory divisions. For the affluent pet owner, Prada has expanded the pet accessories category with items like a recycled nylon and leather pet carrier, pet collar, pet bag leash , harness, non-slip socks ranging up and above € 6000.
Logos and branding are ubiquitous and amplified across ranges in high-end pet accessories, from food bowls to waste disposal bags.
Additionally, Gucci also introduced most expensive line of pet accessories which includes monogrammed canvas, mats, water bowls and dog bed which are being sold for approx. € 6500.
Elsewhere Fendi, Armani, Hermes and Valentino all have accessories dedicated to man’s best friend. Valentino offers customisation as part of its Rockstud Pet project, a personalised carrier with an image of your pet, handcrafted by Riccardo Cusimano for the cost of € 1,600 .
According to the survey, many pet owners enjoy dressing their animals up in unique or fashionable clothing to help them stand out and this trend is here to stay.
