Even as covered vans, trucks and prime movers stopped entering the Chittagong Port to deliver goods from Tuesday morning — Bangladesh Covered-Van Truck Prime Mover Goods Transport Owners Association and Bangladesh Truck Drivers, Workers Federation has called for a 72-hour strike to press their 15-point demand — container and goods delivery from the port has remained halted.
Media reports claimed this while adding that as per the Secretary of Chittagong Port Authority (CPA), Md. Omar Faruk, even as transportation is hampered by the strike, everything else was functioning normally in the port.
Reports further underlined trucks, covered vans, prime movers stopped entering the port to deliver goods from 6 am on Tuesday even as export containers also stopped coming from 19 private off-docks, which had given rise to fears that if the strike continues for 72 hours, it would severely impact container movement resulting in significant financial loss for both the importers and exporters.
