
Assuring the Foreign Investors’ Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) which underlined that foreign investors have been feeling insecure in Bangladesh after the recent terror attack at a Dhaka café, Bangladesh State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid maintained that his Government has taken measures to address the situation. He also added that the Ministry had sent a proposal to the Prime Minister’s office for policy approval to create a special force to protect the establishments in power and energy sector.
This he said at a luncheon organised by FICCI in Dhaka recently. The event was attended by attended US ambassador to Bangladesh Marcia Stephens Bloom Bernicat as the special guest.

“It [the attack] was aimed at foreigners. After this incidence, all foreigners including our FICCI members feel insecure, vulnerable and unsafe,” reportedly said FICCI President Rupali Chowdhury at the event, adding that the attack has created a deep sense of fear and insecurity among the foreigners.
Most of the deceased foreigners in the terrorist attack at the Holey Artisan Bakery — from Italy, Japan and India – were involved either in the apparel sector or in development projects in Bangladesh. “We all know this is a global phenomenon but we request Bangladesh Government to recognise our need for better security and efficient intelligence to ensure the safety and security of the foreigners, including citizens of Bangladesh,” said Rupali.

She also pressed for transparent and business-friendly regulatory frameworks for governing the International Oil Companies (IOCs), International Mining Companies (IMCs) besides requesting the Government to initiate one-stop service to expedite completion of bureaucratic procedures so that projects do not face any delay. Stable and uninterrupted supply of gas and electricity and lowered price of fuel oils were also demanded at the meeting.
