The Ambassador of Iran to Bangladesh Mansour Chavoshi recently called on the President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Faruque Hassan to explore bilateral trade opportunities.
During the meeting, the officials discussed various issues of mutual interest, with a particular focus on widening trade horizons between Bangladesh and Iran even as they emphasised the importance of collaborative initiatives to identify trade opportunities and remove trade barriers, especially regarding the export of garments to Iran.
The discussions also revolved around expanding and diversifying bilateral trade and investment between the two countries.
The meeting was attended by BGMEA Vice President Shahidullah Azim, Chair of BGMEA Standing Committee on Trade Fair Mohammed Kamal Uddin, and Mahmoud Khosravi, Consular and Economic Affairs at the Embassy of Iran in Dhaka.
BGMEA President Faruque Hassan provided an overview of Bangladesh’s readymade garment industry, highlighting its significant contribution to the socioeconomic development of the country.
He informed Ambassador Chavoshi about the progress made by Bangladesh’s apparel industry in terms of workplace safety, environmental sustainability, and world-class manufacturing facilities to meet global demand for quality garments.
Faruque Hassan also mentioned the achievements in developing transport, energy, and digitisation infrastructure, as well as building capacity in ports to meet the growing demand for trade.
Faruque Hassan expressed that with its developing infrastructure and investment-friendly facilities, Bangladesh is an attractive destination for investment. This highlights the country’s efforts to create a conducive environment for businesses.
