
Indian Government has announced to soon launch a scheme to protect the interest of powerloom weavers of the country, informed Minister of State for Textiles Ajay Tamta in Rajya Sabha. Lack of regular supply of electricity and availability of sufficient yarn are among problems being faced by powerloom weavers in the country.
“We are taking steps to address concerns of powerloom weavers. Very soon, we are going to launch a scheme to help them,” Minister of State for Textiles Ajay Tamta said during Question Hour in Rajya Sabha.
Additionally, Government has decided to promote solar energy and subsidiary support will also be given to powerloom weavers. The Minister announced the measures while replying to a query by Ananda Bhaskar Rapolu (Congress) on the steps being taken to protect powerloom weavers in various states including Andhra Pradesh.

Earlier this year, Indian Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani assured to address the issues being faced by the powerloom sector of the country.
