Even as issues related to the supply of gas continue to be one of the most talked about in the Bangladesh textile industry which not so long back reportedly lost around US $ 1.75 billion due to the gas crisis in a span of just three months, the State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid has urged industrialists to stop the use of illegal gas connections even as he held many big industries in the country have been using illegal gas connections.
The minister reportedly came up with the observation at a seminar titled ‘Stakeholders’ Dialogue on Energy Strategy: Towards a Predictable Future‘ organised by the DCCI and attended amongst others by former FBCCI president Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin, Foreign Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) president Naser Ezaz Bijoy, Summit Power director Faisal Karim Khan, Pran RFL Group chairman Ahsan Khan Chowdhury, Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) president Faruque Hasan and energy expert and Dhaka University Professor Badrul Imam.
Addressing the seminar, the Minister maintained that in many cases it has been seen that if a factory has a legal gas connection, there are three more illegal connections bypassing the main one even as he called upon owners of such factories to stop doing so as such illegal connections deprive other industries from getting their right to using gas.
