Maria Fernanda Garza, the Chair of the International Chamber of Commerce, has affirmed her commitment to promoting Bangladesh on the global stage. She also commended Bangladesh’s remarkable progress, recognising the nation’s determination, unity, and resilience in the face of various challenges.
Furthermore, she emphasised the critical importance of maintaining the continuity of cross-border trade for sustaining global economic growth and prosperity. Maria made these remarks during an ICC Bangladesh reception held at a hotel in the capital city of Dhaka recently.
Maria underscored the significance of cross-border commerce, particularly in the context of today’s unpredictable global landscape even if she highlighted the ICC’s leading role in reforming the multilateral system, with a focus on issues such as climate action, environmental preservation, global regulations, and digitalisation.
Additionally, she stressed the importance of unity within the business community and the pivotal role played by the ICC in shaping global policies. Mahbubur Rahman, the President of ICC Bangladesh, emphasized the ICC’s influence on international trade rules and its consultative status with global organizations.
Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi welcomed Maria and highlighted the productive discussions they had regarding trade and investment collaboration in Mexico.
ICC Vice-President Naser Ezaz Bijoy delivered the welcome address at the event.
