The Haryana Cabinet, under the leadership of CM Manhohar Lal Khattar, will initiate 20,000 new job openings and also seeks to attract an investment of Rs 4,000 crore with the approval of theAtmanirbhar Textile Policy. As per an official statement, this decision was taken in a meeting of the Council of Ministers under the Chairmanship of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.
In the meeting, research, innovation and entrepreneurship remained the subject of interest in both 2019 and 2020-2025 policy as the emphasis was laid on supporting the industry, in adopting world-class state-of-the-art technology that aligns with the environment and social standards, encouraging the industry to innovate, develop new designs, diversify and enhance value addition and facilitate and promote sunrise sectors like technical textiles in the critical areas such as defense, automobiles, construction, etc.
Unlike the 2019 Haryana Textile Policy which sought to attract investment of Rs. 5000 crore and generate 5000 new jobs, the Haryana Government is set to observe an increase in export of all types of textiles with a special thrust on products such as garments, made-ups, technical textiles etc., with Haryana’s contribution to national exports of textiles and apparel being 36 per cent for carpets and other textile floor coverings, 18 per cent for apparel and clothing (woven), 8 per cent for apparel and clothing (knitted) and 9 per cent for other made-up textile articles.
The estimated budget for the 2022-2025 policy is Rs. 1,500 crore and it aligns with the ‘5F’ vision of the prime minister – Farm to Fibre to Factory to Fashion to Foreign’. According to the official statement,“It also provides an impetus for diversification of Haryana’s textile industry to the ‘B’, ‘C’ and ‘D’ category blocks and on the promotion of the sunrise sector within textiles i.e., technical textiles, circular economy, open end spinning etc., and support setting up textile parks in the state.”
The ‘Haryana Atmanirbhar Textile Policy 2022-25’ will foster an ecosystem of self-reliance and innovation by initiating an incentive framework applicable for supply chains including textile technology.
