Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry has nominated Harish Ahuja, MD, Shahi Exports; Raja M. Shanmugham, President, Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA); BS Nagesh, Founder, Trust for Retailers & Retail Associates of India (TRRAIN) and Dinesh Sarpal, President, Ludhiana Hosiery Manufacturers Association as non-official members for the Board of Trade.
Shahi Exports is India’s number apparel export house, while Raja M. Shanmugham, also a leading apparel exporter,has been active towards the growth of Tirupur. BS Nagesh is one of the most respected personalities in the Indian retail sector, while Dinesh Sarpal is also a well-known name in Ludhiana’s textile industry.
Overall 29 members from multiple backgrounds are nominated and a notification has been published in this regard.
The Board of Trade, chaired by Commerce and Industry, Textiles Minister Piyush Goyal, advises the Government on policy measures to improve the country’s foreign trade.
The terms of reference for the non-official members include providing a platform to states and UTs to articulate state-oriented perspectives on trade policy, act as a facilitators in implementation of District Export Hub events including sensitisation workshops, identification and promotion of identified products.
