Government is planning to change or tighten the norms for Export Promotion Councils (EPCs); all the executive heads of the textile EPCs may have to inform the ministry regarding their foreign country visits. The Government may review the way these councils elect their top management. This was hinted in a recent meeting of the Textiles Ministry which reviewed the functioning of these councils. Out of total 23 EPCs, 10 are under Textile Ministry that includes apparel, handicraft, handloom and carpet. The Government provides funding to these councils in order to boost exports and other related activities. In the meeting, it was decided that activities of the councils with regard to exports and organizing of exhibitions, BSM (in India and overseas) should be reviewed on quarterly basis.
