Close on heels of recent reports that over 30,000 TEUs of Bangladeshi goods have remained stuck in three transhipment ports as shipping crisis continues to choke the external trade, Hapag-Lloyd has now decided to suspend for a month, bookings of all Bangladesh-bound import containers via Singapore.
As per reports, on 24 June, the German container shipping company announced that consequent to backlog of Chittagong-bound containers at the transhipment port, for the next four weeks, booking of Bangladesh-bound cargo via Singapore will not be possible even as according to General Manager of the local agent of the container transportation company, this decision is not applicable on export containers.
More than 3,500 Bangladesh-bound import containers being carried by Hapag-Lloyd are stuck up in Singapore, underlined reports, which citing the local agent of the container transportation company, maintained that already booked import cargo via Singapore would still be transported even if it underlined that for new bookings, importers can choose alternative routes.
