Gurugram-based Garments Exporters & Manufacturers Association (GEMA) has appointed Dr. Ajay K. Singla as Secretary General of the association.
The information was shared in a statement issued by GEMA, one of the oldest and most dynamic apparel associations in India and formerly known as Garments Exporters Association.
Dr. Ajay, a retired IAS officer, is a doctor turned civil servant, trained in information technology from IIPA, with an MBA (Public Policy) from IIM, Bangalore.
He has served as Secretary, transport to the Chandigarh administration; Finance Secretary to Andaman & Nicobar Administration and Special Secretary to LG, Delhi, etc.
He was also a national resource person as a trainer for creating capacities in PPP. He is well experienced in working in diverse environments and departments, on-field execution as well as policymaking.
Talking to Apparel Resources, he said, “As the international scenario is very critical to apparel export, Government policies have a very significant role for this industry. Being a policy-making specialist I shall use my expertise to support the apparel industry. We at GEMA will work as a bridge between industry and the Government.”
Vijay Jindal, President of the GEMA, welcomed the joining of Dr. Ajay and said that his experience of more than four decades and being well versed with the working of the Government will help the apparel industry.
“Every issue can’t be raised at the level of any prime body of our industry so we are supporting the industry in such areas,” said Vijay.
It is also pertinent to mention here that GEMA is currently having around 200 members and is aggressively working to increase its membership. In next 5 to 6 months, it is expected to have a total of 400 members.
