Underlining Bangladesh has already graduated from an LDC, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi has maintained discussions on FTA with Malaysia have gone far ahead and sought sincere cooperation of traders for signing of the FTA.
Media reports maintained this adding the Commerce Minister made this remark while addressing a seminar on ‘Opportunities and Challenges of FTA for Bangladesh’ on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Bangladesh Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) even as he added to compete with the developed world and move ahead in trade and commerce, Bangladesh needs to be prepared to face the challenges of graduation.
Tipu Munshi further, reportedly, added there were many technical and important issues with FTA, not just economic or trade relations while adding a lot of work has been done to sign FTA/PTA with several countries including Australia, Malaysia and Indonesia.
“The signing of the FTA or PTA will put pressure on our economy…There is no alternative to trade with different countries,” further maintained the Commerce Minister while adding in the long run, Bangladesh will have to do it.
