A former Vice President of the apex garment makers’ body, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and the present Chairman of Hannan Group, ABM Samsuddin, seems all set to lead Forum in the upcoming election of BGMEA.
This was underlined in recent media reports, which claimed that Forum has nominated Samsuddin to lead in the next election where he will, reportedly, contest against Sammilita Parishad’s Faruque Hassan.
A former Senior Vice President of the traders’ body (BGMEA) and Managing Director of Giant Group, Faruque’s name was announced by the Sammilita Parishad in October 2020.
It may be mentioned here that on 3 January 2021, an emergency board meeting of the BGMEA, held virtually, formed an election board and an election appellate board to conduct the election — garment makers traditionally compete to elect their leadership for 2 years under the banners of Forum and Sammilita Parishad, which are the panels of BGMEA’s registered members — for the 2021-22 term.
