The President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) has called upon the garment makers of his country to focus more on export of high value apparel items.
According to media reports, Md. Jashim Uddin made this call at the first meeting of the standing committee on RMG, knitwear and sweaters at the FBCCI office even as he urged the entrepreneurs of garments and textile industries to diversify their investments.
The FBCCI President, while maintaining most entrepreneurs are interested in investing in cotton-based garment and spinning sector even if the demand for manmade fibre (MMF) clothing is now increasing in the global market and also command higher prices, urged the entrepreneurs in the country’s apparel and textile sectors to invest in the MMF sector while going on to add despite being the second largest exporter of apparels, Bangladesh mainly exports relatively cheap garments still.
