Swiss Government collaboration in the areas of advanced technology and renewable energy has been sought by Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources Advisor Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan. Additionally, he extended an invitation to Swiss businessmen to invest in Bangladesh’s development and growth.
At their Sunday meeting, he made the call, according to Reto Renggli, the Swiss Ambassador to Bangladesh. At the secretariat, a delegation headed by the Swiss envoy was convened.
Talking about his quick actions after becoming the advisor, Fouzul Kabir made sure that the electricity and energy industry was held accountable and transparent. He extended a warm invitation to Swiss businesses to take part in Bangladesh’s numerous development projects.
According to the adviser, he was recently at the Matarbari power plant project. Deep seaports, economic zones, railroads, and road construction are all included in the proposal. However, unless other projects are undertaken, it is not possible to obtain significant benefits from the mere establishment of power plants.
He noted that the previous Government had taken on and carried out a great deal of unexpected development projects in the electricity and energy industry.
He declared that he would now prioritise combining large-scale initiatives with low-cost, smaller-scale projects. He also noted that emphasis will also be laid on renewable energy generation and the use of environment-friendly energy.
Reto Renggli praised the adviser for taking on positions in three significant ministries—road transportation, bridges, and railroads—and noted that the adviser’s work is extremely difficult. The ambassador was pleased with the actions the present administration took quickly.
He expressed optimism that the actions taken, such as the removal of secretaries from their positions as chairman of the companies they control, the suspension of a contentious law in the power and energy sector, the cancellation of Section 34A of the BERC Act, the introduction of an open tender process for Government procurement, and others, would significantly contribute to guaranteeing accountability and transparency.
The envoy promised to give Bangladesh’s offer of financial and technological support careful consideration.
