On Monday, customs authorities at Jessore’s Benapole Port confiscated 12 trucks carrying fabrics valued at Taka 20 crore, allegedly imported under false declaration from India.
Reports maintained this while adding according to sources at Benapole Custom House, the importing company, Rojamoni Enterprise of Dinajpur, declared the import as synthetic fabrics, but the actual contents were discovered to be shirt and velvet fabrics.
The shipment was cleared by Shariful Islam, who reportedly rented the licenses of C&F agents Trina Associates and Ananta Enterprises Pvt Ltd. Shariful Islam admitted to lacking a personal license and stated that he operates by renting licenses from others.
However, he mentioned that the customs authorities have not yet completed a full inspection of the goods.
Abdul Hakeem, the commissioner of Benapole Custom House, stated, “The consignments were unloaded from Indian trucks at the port shed in the presence of our officials. However, a 100 per cent physical examination will be completed as soon as possible.”
He emphasised a zero-tolerance policy at Benapole port, ensuring that no exemptions will be granted in case of irregularities.
