Lot of Chinese investors have expressed their interest to invest big in apparel production in Myanmar. The Ayeyarwady Development Public Co Ltd. (ADPC) is all set to build an industrial park in the port city of Pathein to promote garment industry in the city.
The company has also entered into a contract with Hong Kong-based China Textile Network Co Ltd., according to which the latter intends to set up 50 garment factories in Pathein in next 2 years.
The recently signed agreement between ADPC and the Chinese firm said that 50 factories will be built on an area spanning 200 acres in the industrial city of Pathein.
Chinese interest towards the city arises from the fact that land prices in Pathein are half of those in Yangon. Besides, the industrial city also has the ability to ship directly to Singapore.
“The agreement could see Chinese companies invest around US $ 100 million in the industrial park to set up garment factories,” further corroborated U San Khun, Vice Secretary General, Chinese Textile and Garment Association in Myanmar.
