Canada’s apparel import values couldn’t turn the wind in its favour and were down by 17.54 per cent in January ’21 on Y-o-Y basis, according to the latest data.
The country imported US $ 651.51 million worth of garments in the first month of the year shrinking from US $ 790.05 million in the same month of 2020.
Of total import values, knitted clothing constituted US $ 373.86 million, declining 6.32 per cent, while woven clothing imports took a hard hit with 29 per cent fall on Y-o-Y basis to US $ 277.65 million.
Though there was a Y-o-Y fall noted in Canadian apparel import values, an increase was seen on M-o-M note in Jan. ’21 as compared to Dec. ’20.
Canada had imported US $ 637.41 million worth of garments in Dec. ’20 which means it experienced 2.21 per cent rise in Jan. ’21.
The rise in knitted clothing import was 2.42 per cent on monthly basis, while woven clothing upped by 1.93 per cent.
