
President Faruque Hassan of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) underscored the imperative of bolstering capabilities in innovation and expanding product and fibre offerings during his address at the Projecting Jute as the Fibre of the Future programme in Dhaka on 15th December.
The event, jointly organised by the Ministry of Textile and Jute and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, witnessed Faruque Hassan emphasising the increasing global focus on sustainability, climate change, and the circular economy, highlighting consumers’ growing preference for sustainable materials.
Faruque Hassan noted BGMEA’s active promotion of fibre diversification, particularly emphasising sustainable fibres, and highlighted existing initiatives to encourage the use of alternative fibres for industry transformation.
The programme, attended by State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md. Shahriar Alam and ambassadors from various countries, showcased BGMEA’s commitment to promoting natural fibres.
Faruque Hassan detailed ongoing research and development efforts to enhance jute fibre for readymade garment production, emphasising Bangladesh’s rich textile heritage and the growing utilisation of jute, bamboo, and other natural fabrics in sustainable textile manufacturing.
Faruque Hassan urged stakeholders to take necessary steps in promoting natural fibres and adopting improved technology for garment production using local materials.
