
Apex garment makers’ body in Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), has once again called upon the country’s Roads and Highways Department (RHD) to carry out necessary maintenance works on roads in the major industrial areas so as to ease traffic congestion.
According to media reports, a BGMEA delegation that included BGMEA Vice President Shahidullah Azim, former First Vice Presidents SM Abu Tayeb and Nasir Uddin Chowdhury and led by its President Faruque Hassan recently called on RHD Chief Engineer AKM Manir Hossain Pathan to apprise him of the problems faced by the garment makers on account of traffic jams and urged him to undertake necessary maintenance works on roads in major industrial areas including Narayanganj, Dhaka, Chittagong and Gazipur.
During the meeting with RHD Chief Engineer, Faruque, reportedly, maintained due to dilapidated roads connecting major industrial zones, including Chittagong, Gazipur, Narayanganj, Mawna, Savar and Ashulia, vehicles carrying export-oriented goods often remain stuck in traffic jams for long hours.
