The apex garment makers’ body of BGMEA has called upon Bangladesh’s National Board of Revenue (NBR) to allow import of raw materials including yarn by roads and railways through the land ports at Darshana, Bhomra and Sona Masjid.
This is as per reports which added the garment makers’ body made the request in this regard recently even as it underlined lion’s share of Bangladesh’s yarn import was made from India only through the Benapole land port, as a result of which, garment makers were reportedly facing difficulty since there is no scope for importing yarn through railways, the trade body maintained.
Given the situation at hand, the apparel makers are seeking scope to import yarn and other raw materials by roads through Bhomra, Sona Masjid, Darshana land ports and also via railways and they reportedly believe, if this demand is met, the garment industry, which is considered the backbone of Bangladesh’s economy, will be able to maintain its competitive edge even during any crisis.
