Bangladesh’s Economic Relations Division or ERD recently organised an event in capital Dhaka to celebrate the country’s graduation from the Least Developed Country (LDC) status.
Media reports maintained this adding the event was held at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) even as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina attended the same as the chief guest.
It may be mentioned here that as per reports, the country (Bangladesh) met all the criteria for LDC graduation for the second consecutive time during the latest triennial review of the Committee for Development Policy (CDP) of the United Nations, held in February 2021, even as the CDP has also recommended providing an extended preparatory period of five years for Bangladesh spanning from the year 2021 to 2026, which was, reportedly, duly endorsed by the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations on 8 June 2021, consequent to which the United Nations General Assembly adopted the resolution of ECOSOC’s recommendation for Bangladesh’s LDC graduation on 24 November 2021.
