Bangladesh’s export growth this October witnessed a negative growth, registering a fall of 7.85 per cent year-on-year (Y-o-Y) — in October. Bangladesh earned US $ 4.35 billion from exports compared to what was US $ 4.72 billion during the same period last year — even as Bangladesh’s export earnings witnessed low growth in September as well after a positive streak of 13 months.
Media reports maintained this citing data from the country’s Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), published recently.
Meanwhile, as per the EPB data, apparel sector managed to earn US $ 3.67 billion in October from exports, fetching a narrow Y-o-Y growth of 3.27 per cent.
Earning from apparel exports in October last year was US $ 3.56 billion.
But this hasn’t been able to make the garment makers quite happy as they apprehend uncertainty in the coming days even if the export growth in October has been ‘negligible’, they underlined.
“The big challenge is whether it will be possible to sustain this growth,” maintained BGMEA Vice-President Shahidullah Azim speaking to the media even as BGMEA Mohiuddin Rubel on his part maintained, “Orders are declining. What we have to see now is whether this growth remains in the coming months or not.”
