The import and export of containerised cargo through the Bangladesh’s principal seaport in Chittagong, which is responsible for handling bulk of exports and imports including apparel shipments, fell in the first quarter of the current fiscal when compared with the same period of previous year.
Reports maintained this adding that this indicates a slowdown in foreign trade resulting from global economic downtrends even as they added the overall container handling at Chittagong Port has also come down to its lowest in September.
As per data from the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA), 3.53 lakh TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) of import-laden containers were unloaded at the port in the last three months till September this year, which is 3.26 per cent less than that of the same period last year.
