Container vessels from Bangladesh — Bangladesh uses Colombo as transhipment port — will now on get special berthing facilities at the state-owned Jaya Container Terminal of Colombo Port.
This follows Sri Lanka’s decision to offer priority berthing facilities to Bangladeshi feeder vessels even as Chairman of Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) Prasantha Jayamanna recently announced the same at a discussion in Colombo.
Bangladesh High Commission, which has been pursuing this priority berthing issue with SLPA for long, organised a stakeholders’ consultation forum recently in Colombo on enhancing shipping connectivity between Chittagong and Colombo Ports pursuant to observance of the First Economic Diplomacy Week.
