To diversify cotton sourcing destinations in today’s competitive world, textile mill owners in Bangladesh want to source more cotton from USA, to facilitate which they have called for direct shipping with the USA.
Media reports maintained this adding the leaders of the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) made this appeal even if reports suggest nearly US$1 billion worth of cotton is imported by Bangladesh from the US in a year, while it sources cotton mainly from Australia, India and African countries.
Reports further add, of late, USA has been slowly turning into a good source of cotton for the local millers in Bangladesh even if USA is also the single largest export destination for Bangladesh where the latter has already shipped more than US$4 billion worth of apparel items over the last six months of this fiscal year.
