
The RMG exporters of the Bangladesh feels that the export earnings from the country’s garment sector may fall short of the target in the ongoing FY due to the political turmoil that hit the sector badly for over three months. Reportedly, the country’s RMG sector (knitwear and woven) was set to generate US $ 19,549 million during the July-March period of the current FY while it fetched US $ 18,626.28 million, 9 per cent short of the target.
Woven garments were set to bring in US $ 9,605.11 million while it generated US $ 9,068.88 million, 5.58 per cent short of the target. Knitwear sub sector was set to bring US $ 9,943.91 million during the July-March period while it only brought in US $ 9,557.40 million, 3.83 per cent short of the target.
Reportedly, the garment sector will fetch US $ 27 billion out of the country’s overall export target of US $ 33.2 billion in this fiscal year.
