Bangladesh and India have decided to start comprehensive economic partnership agreement (CEPA) negotiations in 2022 calendar year itself even if Prime Ministers Sheikh Hasina and Narendra Modi have directed trade officials of the respective countries to complete the negotiations at the earliest possible.
Media reports maintained this while adding according to the joint statement issued by the two leaders in this direction, they had welcomed the recent finalisation of a joint feasibility study, as per which the CEPA will be beneficial for both the countries.
It may be mentioned here a Dhaka-Delhi joint feasibility study had earlier claimed the proposed deal is expected to boost Bangladesh’s export earnings by 190 per cent and India’s by 188 per cent and the gross domestic product by 1.72 per cent and 0.03 per cent, respectively.
