The role and importance of the port city of Chittagong, home to Bangladesh’s principal port-Chittagong Port, which handles bulk of imports and exports including all-important apparel shipments was once again highlighted by the Commerce Minister of the country after he termed it ‘the lifeline of the country’.
According to media reports, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi while addressing the 7th Bangladesh Trade and Export Fair 2022 recently, maintained the Government would give more priority to Chittagong considering its importance even as he said, “Bangladesh is looking towards Chittagong and its port based on strong economy of the country.”
The Commerce Minister further reportedly said the Government and entrepreneurs had contributed towards taking the country forward but made clear that the Government will not do business rather help the Bangladeshi entrepreneurs as they are apt at running their respective businesses properly.
It may be mentioned here the port city of Chittagong is also an apparel manufacturing hub of Bangladesh and home to many renowned names in the realm of apparel manufacturing and exports.
