Bangladesh garment makers have witnessed a downtrend trend in work orders from global buyers in recent times.
Media reports claimed this citing industry people, according to whom, Bangladesh, which once fetched work orders aplenty after the post-COVID-19 lockdown period from buyers in Europe and USA, is now receiving at least 20 per cent less orders.
This declining trend is, reportedly, also reflected in the issuance of utilisation declaration (UD) by Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA), both of which on average issued 20 per cent less UD last month.
This the industry people, reportedly, attributed to rising global inflation and possible recession in major economies on account of uncertainties caused by the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, BGMEA President Faruque Hassan, claimed “Work orders have also fallen by 20 per cent during the April-June period compared to the same period of 2021.”
